WarmMark Ascending Temperature Indicators
The WarmMark single-use indicators provide a permanent, tamperproof record of essential data with regard to thermal protection of products that are adversely affected by low and high ascending temperatures. Available in a dual model and long-run models, they utilize a chemically activated, irreversible dye color change that occurs when the temperature of a monitored environment increases to a threshold response temperature (+/-1°C). The WarmMark indicators monitor the approximate duration (hours or days depending on the model) that the product has been exposed to the threshold temperature.
Instructions for Use
Storage: The Warm Mark temperature strip has a shelf life of two years from the date of manufacture, with the exception of the -18°C indicator, which has a shelf life of one year. Store the WarmMark at room temperature or cold storage.
Pre-conditioning: Pre-condition the WarmMark indicator for at least one hour at a temperature 5°C below its response temperature. This ensures that the compound inside the indicator is in a solid state when the activator tab is pulled.
If the compound is not in a solid state, it will start moving down the track of the indicator, and produce an inaccurate reading. The product must be maintained below the threshold temperature. Without this precaution, heat from the product or surface could cause a false positive response.
Application: Remove the peel-off liner from the back of the WarmMark, and secure it to the inside of the container or on the product. Pull the activation tab, which allows the indicator strip and reservoir pad to come in direct contact.
Interpretation of Results: When the response temperature is reached, a red color appears in the indicator's window. With the passage of time, the red dye will gradually move through the windows of the indicator. If the temperature returns to below the threshold, the dye will stop moving. The final location of the red dye may be used to estimate the duration of exposure above the threshold temperature. The runout time is faster for temperatures higher than the response threshold. If the white color remains unchanged in the indicators windows, the temperature has not reached the response threshold temperature.
