3M MonitorMark Ascending Temperature Indicators
The MonitorMark single-use temperature indicators provide evidence of ascending temperature exposures. Available in several single and dual models, they utilize a chemically activated, irreversible dye color change that occurs when the monitored environment reaches a specified threshold temperature (+/-1°C). The Monitor Mark monitors the approximate duration (hours or days depending on the model) that the product has been exposed to the threshold temperature.
Instructions for Use
Storage: The shelf life of the MonitorMark is two years from date of manufacture.
Pre-conditioning: To prevent a false positive response, the MonitorMark must be conditioned prior to activation. This ensures that the response chemical is solid rather than liquid prior to removing the activation strip. The indicator must be conditioned for a minimum of two hours in a suitable refrigerator, freezer, or chamber at the temperatures listed in the table on the reverse side. Once conditioned and ready-for-use,
the indicators must be maintained below the threshold temperature. The payload being monitored also must be maintained below the threshold temperature. Without this precaution, heat from the product could cause a false positive response.
Application: Peel off the liner on the back of the indicator, and secure the MonitorMark on a clean, dry surface inside the shipping container or on the product. Remove the activation strip to allow direct contact between the indicator strip and the reservoir pad.
Interpretation of Results: The appearance of any shade of blue in the indicator's first window signals that the specified threshold temperature has been exceeded. The distance that the dye travels across the indicator's windows is called the runout. A response card (enclosed with each shipment) is used to evaluate the maximum amount of time that a product has been exposed to a threshold temperature (e.g. 5°C for 30 hours).
