Global Pharmaceutical: Project Management for a Global Challenge

A global pharmaceutical company turned to Cold Chain Technologies for effective solutions for shipment of pharmaceutical product between two international and two domestic locations and in multiple forms, from bulk material to unit-dispensing quantities. Thanks to excellent project management, Cold Chain delivered well designed, fully qualified, thermal packaging for each of these challenges.

Cold Chain evaluated the temperature requirements presented by each of the shipping scenarios presented by this global pharmaceutical company. Through intense design and testing, separate solutions were developed for each need:

  • Bulk materials shipped from the U.S. to Europe,
  • Finished, bulk product shipped from Europe back to the U.S.,
  • Packaged product distributed nationally, and
  • Samples distributed nationally.

Cold Chain did more than test the efficacy of the thermal packaging. It worked with the global company to evaluate the stability of its pharmaceutical products. Cold Chain conducted thermal cycling studies by exposing bulk and finished products to each of the simulated external shipping environments. Once these tests were completed, bulk and finished products were shipped back to the pharmaceutical company for stability testing.

Many qualifications were conducted by Cold Chain for this project. This required tremendous attention to detail and organization. Our expertise in project management paid off for our global customer. They now have a well-functioning system with thermal gel packs that meets their temperature requirements while maintaining product stability.
