Biotech: Fast Track Project Management
One of the world's largest biotech companies presented a challenge to Cold Chain:
In six weeks, design and qualify three low-cost universal packout boxes that will maintain temperature-sensitive products between 0°C to 10°C for 36 hours.
Cold Chain met this challenge for perishable packaging with three simple, pre-qualified molded EPS containers, all packed with the same frozen Koolit gel packs.
Cold Chain Laboratories' expertise in pharmaceutical, medical, and biotech packaging, thermal design, and project management fast-tracked this project for one of the world's largest biotech companies. Our engineers attacked this problem according to a detailed action plan.
- Cold Chain quickly defined the biotech company's thermal packaging needs. Due to cost concerns, the biotech company didn't want the traditional sandwich design of room-temperature and frozen gel packs.
- Relying on our detailed knowledge of thermodynamics and CAD CAM, our engineers created a unique design of a molded EPS container with carefully designed placements for frozen gels allowing the gels to maintain the product's temperature via controlled convection.
- Taking it from the theoretical to the practical, Cold Chain Laboratories tested several iterations of its thermal designs and perfected the balance between cost and thermal performance.
- This resulted in a simple universal packout scheme, specific to each of the payloads.
